Friends of the Arts Meeting
5:00 Monday, December 6, 2010
McGregor Center Band Room

Present:   Lyle Behrend, Ila Benzing, Jaydeane Berns, Sue Kuenzel, Barb Ruff, Pam Smalley Naomi Yaddof

Pam reviewed minutes from the last meeting.  Naomi handed out the treasurer’s report.  Motion by Pam to approve them.  Ila seconded.  Motion carried.

Discussion was held about the vocal festival.  The next time we have it, if we serve pizza, we need to charge everyone for two pieces, not give a choice of one or two.  Many took two when they only paid for one.  At the honor band meeting last Sat., Subway provided box lunches.  That could be an option for us next time.

Barb suggested looking in to purchasing new platforms for the stage at the middle school.  She will get some prices.

We were asked to sponsor the Jose Cole Circus in Feb.  There are too many conflicts.  We cannot sponsor them.

Our Carnival is scheduled for Fri., Feb. 25th, 2011.  Setup for the Carnival will be on Thurs. after school.
Our next meeting will be Jan. 3rd, 2011 at 4:00 in McGregor.  We will be assigning carnival jobs and donations and addressing envelopes.
A suggestion was made to use an all-school phone call message to remind parents about a week before the carnival.  We will also add e-mail address to the volunteer form.
Naomi and Sue went through the prizes.  Naomi will order more prizes.  Anyone wanting to purchase the raffle prizes can do so, then contact everyone to let us know.  Suggestions were an ipod, flip video camera, wii, ds and game.  Places suggested to ask for donations are:  AmericInn, Elkader Cinema, Bearfoot Bay, Top Shelf, Scoop on Main, Jodi’s Americana Grill.
Students should be reminded that working the carnival will count for community service hours for government or Dollars for Scholars.
We will need to get a janitor for that night.

A meal stipend will be given to Chelsey Suddendorf for going to All-State.

Sue and Lyle will check on having a marimba / percussionist perform for band students.

Meeting adjourned at 6:15.
